The AVIM connector, born as a rugged version of the DIN LSA connector has been developed by Diamond since the end of the 80's.
AVIO and AVIM are multipurpose, fibre optic connectors offering high optical performance and qualified for the dynamic environments of mobile platforms, including avionics and aerospace.
When concluding their ESA space qualification, the AVIM and Mini-AVIM will be the only space qualified optical fibre connector. Diamond has knowledge of space applications and will support customers for future programmes.
Special execution with geometry, material or process variation can be made as Diamond produce all components in house, from the ceramic to the plastic injection moulded parts.
The Mini-AVIM connector contains the best of two connectors. It uses the ratchet mechanism of the AVIM connector and the design and orientation key from the Diamond Miniature Interface, DMI.
By design, the AVIO/AVIM are the sum of several engineering achievements:
· compact, low profile and lightweight
· environmentally robust
· Zirconia/Copper-nickel alloy insert ferrules
· miniaturized MIL-style ratchet system with vibration/shock tolerances to 46 G’s.
· Temperature test according to EIA/TIA 455-3A/4B
· Lifetime test according to EIA/TIA 455-21A
